The Book is the item used for unshackling Slendrina's Mother and retrieving the Spider Key, which is used to gain access to the underground area, the Spider Cellar.
Appearance
The Book has a brown cover with a faded painting on its front. Its pages are beige and have no text on them. There are 7 copies of it on the 5th shelf of the Bookshelf guarding the Bookshelf room.
Usage
The Book's main use is getting the Spider Key. The Book must be placed on the Lectern in the Bookshelf Room, which the Book will then manually open widely. When done so, Slendrina's Mother will be let go from her shackles, and she will later crawl out of the room and cough up the Spider Key when the player isn't looking.
Spawning
The Book can spawn in a variety of different locations (for more information, see Item Locations).
These positions are:
- Dining Room - In the wardrobe.
- Study - In the wardrobe.
- Starting Bedroom - On the chest of drawers.
- Secret Area's Top Floor - On the chest of drawers.
- Dining Room - On the middle shelf
Trivia
- Prior to Version 1.7.9.3, the Book would instead pull back the Strange Substance, revealing the shackled Slendrina's Mother. Since this version, there is no substance wall, and instead the Book releases her from her prison.
- Prior to Version 1.8, the Book's sole purpose was to activate an Easter Egg, rather than progress in the game.
- The Book looks very similar to the books that can be found on the Bookshelf.
- There are 7 books +1 (the item) 8, meaning they are the same book from Slendrina the Cellar.
- Upon opening the book, the spine can still be seen on the inside, which should not be possible.
- The Book, though it is empty, could be a reference to Slendrina X, where the player uses this exact Book to seal Slendrina's spirit inside.
- Granny may have taken the book and released Slendrina, because, in Slendrina X. the protagonist leaves the castle without taking the book. This also explains why there is nothing in the book.
- It's also the same book seen in Slendrina: The Cellar and Slendrina: The Cellar 2.
- When dropped, it makes a soft noise which is the exact same to when the Cardboard Boxes are knocked over or when the Mannequin is knocked over.
- The Book was used in Slendrina X for a ritual to seal Slendrina into it.
- She is later implied to be released from this book by Granny, its significance in this game also implies that this is the same book.
- The Book could spawn in the Garage shelf before V1.8. Later it was moved to the Starting Bedroom, making it easier to obtain the book.
- Currently, the Book and by extension, the Spider Key, and the Hammer (unless you managed to do the Glitch) are the only items that are always required to beat the game on all presets.
- Prior to Version 1.7.9.3, music would play after placing the book.
- This still is in the PC Port.
- Surprisingly, the Book is the only item in the game that can always be found in the open on all presets.
- The Hammer and the Safe Key experiences the same thing back at the older versions.
- The texture of the book is the most complex of all items.
- The Book's positions mostly didn't change in Version 1.8, although the placement of the book did switch, for example it spawned in the Dining Room's wardrobe, top shelf, but was changed to the middle shelf.
- The same followed with other items, such as the barrel.
- The Book also used in Slendrina: The Cellar, Slendrina: The Cellar 2 and Slendrina X.
- The book has a vase in the logo.
- The book is an asset from this page, named "Old Romanian book".
