The Flashlight is one of the key items in Granny. It was added in Version 1.0 of the game but is only exclusive to the PC Port of the game.

Description[]

The Flashlight is a borderline necessity to pick up, as the entire house is pitch black except for the LEDs on the Wire Lock and Granny's glowing eyes.

It is the only item in the game that can be held in the Player's left hand, meaning they are able to dual wield and hold any other item in their right hand. Furthermore, once the Player has acquired the flashlight, it can never be dropped or removed from their inventory. The player must beat the game with the flashlight once it is acquired.

It is important to note that the Flashlight casts shadows, which can make it difficult to see Granny when hiding in Cabinets. For example, the one in the Garage, or the Vent Tunnel, as they obscure the Player's field of view when they are inside of them.

Appearance[]

It is a standard-sized flashlight, made of black painted metal that has been dinged up and scratched, implying it has been used before. It's difficult to discern all of its details, as only the front end of the flashlight is illuminated.

Spawning[]

It will always spawn on the Player's bedside table in the Starting Bedroom on all presets, as it is a fixed spawning location.

Trivia[]

  • It is the only item in the house that the Player owns, as they brought it with them on their trip to explore the Unknown Forest.
  • The Flashlight is the only item that is exclusive to the PC version.
  • It's not impossible to complete the game without picking up the Flashlight. However, it would be extremely difficult to do so due to the house being completely pitch black with no light sources.
  • It's impossible to see the Flashlight's full model due to the darkness, unless you looked into the game files somehow.
  • If the Player loses the game without holding the Flashlight, they will acquire it automatically and use it in the Game Over death cutscenes. This is presumably because they would be completely impossible to see otherwise, entirely ruining their effect.
  • It's also pretty strange that if the Player gets knocked, they don't drop the Flashlight.
    • However, this is likely done to make the game easier. It can also be seen in the Granny PC Trailer.
    • Or the player straps their flashlight to their head once they've picked it up similar to a headlamp.
  • If the Player walks in front of the Flashlight, their shadow will not be shown on the wall. Not only this, but if they pick up the Vase, its shadow will completely disappear. This is because the Player does not have a proper model associated to them, as they are technically just a floating, moving camera.
  • The Flashlight returns in the PC port of Granny: Chapter Two but doesn't return in Granny 3's PC port.
