The Pepper Spray is an item which the Player can use as a weapon. It releases pepper gas, which causes Granny to temporarily lose eyesight on contact. It was added released in Version 1.6.
Appearance
The Pepper Spray is a tiny, yellow, cylindrical canister with the text "PEPPER SPRAY" printed on it in black letters. The spray actuator is made out of a solid black color.
The pepper gas inside is yellow. When released, it initially flies forward out of the canister's release point before shortly spreading around.
The Gas: Pepper sprays contains oleoresin capsicum (OC), a natural chili‑pepper extract rich in capsaicin that causes the burning effect, mixed with carrier liquids like water or alcohol to keep it stable, and propellants such as nitrogen or CO₂ that push the spray out of the canister; some formulas also include UV dyes, preservatives, or thickeners to adjust the spray pattern.
Mechanics
Usage
When sprayed in Granny's face, it causes her to cover her eyes in discomfort and turn blind for 30 seconds. She then loses track of the Player and walks away. From here, she will run to sounds that the Player makes, but she won't not be able to see and chase them. Granny can still knock them out if they get too close. If Granny is in rage mode while she is blinded, she will know where the Player is regardless.
It can only be sprayed five times. Further uses display a message telling: 'It's empty.'
Spawning
It spawns on the small shelf in the Stair Closet, which requires the Remote Control to open.
Trivia
- It is the only non-lethal weapon in the game; it doesn't neutralize Granny.
- This is the only weapon that cannot activate Bear Traps.
- If you were to spray Granny a few seconds after your last spray, she will cover her face in discomfort again despite her being blinded already.
- There is a very rare glitch where Granny will freeze in place if you go behind her while spraying. The length of time Granny remains blind can be longer than 30 seconds.
- In Version 1.6 and 1.6.1, there was a glitch that could make the player invisible with the Pepper Spray.
- The Pepper Spray and the Shotgun are the only weapon that can only be used a limited amount of uses.
