The safe key is a puzzle item and one of the keys. It is mainly used to unlock the safe, found in the basement, and one of the possible items inside it.
Appearance
The key is made of aged gold, tinged with rust. It consists of three segments: the handle of a grayish-brown color with a keychain hole; the shaft, which is slightly thicker in the middle; and the blade with a thin, rectangular bit in a shape of square indents.
Usage
The safe key can be used on the basement safe's door to instantly open it. Granny doesn't hear the squeaking from it opening.
Spawning
The Safe Key spawns in one of its five possible locations, depending on which main preset is chosen:
- Jail - inside the jail ventilator
- Inside the safe is the car key
- Secret Area Bottom Floor - in the screwdriver safe
- Inside the safe is the chain cutter
- Jail - inside the jail ventilator
- Inside the safe is the rusty padlock key
- Chest Room - in the Chest Puzzle
- Inside the safe are the cutting pliers
- Pipe Room - in the screwdriver safe
- Inside the safe is the wooden stick
Trivia
- The safe key, padlock key, master key, and playhouse key are the only keys that make a jingling sound when picked up.
- Like most items, the safe key used to drop to the right of the player in older versions.
- The shape of the safe key's bit does not align with the shape of keyhole on the safe.
- The key's model was reused from Slendrina X and Slendrina: The Cellar's PC release.
- This key can't fit in the Secret Area Bottom Floor's screwdriver safe, so it only half of it can be seen.
- On preset #4, this key can be skipped as the safe contains the cutting pliers, while the chain cutter can be found in the open.
- In older versions, the safe key had different spawn locations, those being: in the right drawer in the Starting Bedroom; on the top left shelf in Hidden Closet; in the toilet; in the microwave; in the study's right drawer; in the crow cage; and in the Secret Area Top Floor's right drawer.
