Spawning is an important feature in Granny. It is done by the characters of the game at the start of each Day.
Start of the Day
- Granny will spawn in four of possible locations which are: Basement, Bedroom 2, Living Room or the Secret Area Middle Floor
- Prior to Version 1.7.9.3, she would always spawn in the Basement at the start of days, NOT when you knock her out.
- The Player will always spawn on the bed in the Starting Bedroom.
- The Spider will spawn in its cage in the Special Room.
- The Crow will spawn in its cage in the Old House Kitchen.
- Slendrina's Mother will spawn in the Bookshelf Room, chained to the wall.
Other
- Slendrina will spawn behind the Crib in the Nursery, when the Teddy is delivered.
- The Teddy always spawns in the Hidden Closet.
- The Spider Mom will spawn in the Spider Cellar, once the Player enters it for the first time and will run either to the Elevator or to the end of the long hallway with a shelf at the end of it. Whenever the Player exits the Spider Cellar, she despawns. After her initial spawning, the Spider Mom will not repeat her original spawn procedure every other time the Player enters the Spider Cellar. Instead, she will respawn where she was when the Player last exited the area.
- This however, cannot be seen unless you enter the Spider Cellar using a mod.
For item spawnings, see Item Locations.
Knock-out
If Granny is shot by a Tranquilizer Darts, Shotgun (with/without Gasoline Can), Car, Freeze Trap or Sauna, she will have four possible respawning spots when the time is up, being her 4 possible spots that she spawns in at the start of each day.
She has an equal chance of spawning in all 4 of these spots. It is completely random where she spawns; as of right now, no known patterns have been found. It has been noticed that Granny will not spawn in the same spot 2 times in a row, and it will always alternate.
Tips
The selection of these spots is believed to be randomized so there is no way of knowing which she will appear at. It is recommended to stay away from each of these areas near her wakening. One useful tip is to escape to the Attic or Backyard to wait for her revival. The only downside is that you have to pass Bedroom 2 for the Attic and the Backyard is close to the Living Room, so don't leave it until the last few seconds.
When respawned she will run to the most recent noise made during her time asleep, so if noise is made you should stay away from where the most recent one was made or hide. Often, when she respawns in Bedroom 2 she will knock over the Chair or in the Basement, she will knock over the Metal Panel hanging up. This is useful for the Player to know that she's back and where she is.
When Granny is about to respawn, it would be wise to hide or back up against a wall where Granny can not spawn. From here, you can either wait for her to show herself and knock her out again using one of the weapons, or you can wait until you know what direction she's coming from and avoid her entirely.
The safest thing, especially for beginners is just to hide and wait for her to respawn as you are unsure of where she will be at and you don't want to be running into her.
As of Version 1.8, Granny no longer re-spawns near the players current location, making it less dangerous. However, the player can still run into to her if they go to her respawn spots right after she respawns.
You can try test out where Granny now spawns on V1.8 at the Start of the Day, here are some tricks you can try do:
- Bedroom 2: Try walk into the Upper Floor's Creaking Floor at the start of the day. And then, quickly walk into the Attic's Stairs. If you found Granny opening the door from Bedroom 2 and walking into it, then she definitely spawns in the room.
- The could be risky on Extreme Mode as she has fast speed and a higher chance of resulting a Knockout.
- If you try to do it but by throwing the Grey Vase on the Starting Bedroom, and then standing behind the Door, it will be less risky.
- This could be test out if she's spawning inside the Basement, the Secret Area Middle Floor and the Living Room. However, there could be a higher chance of getting found especially when she spawns on Basement or the Living Room.
- The could be risky on Extreme Mode as she has fast speed and a higher chance of resulting a Knockout.
- Basement or the Living Room: Try to distract Granny by touching the Creaking Floors on the Kitchen (near the Locker), or the Bell Alarm on the Main Door, if you found her opening:
- The Door of the Basement, then she definitely spawns in the Basement.
- If she goes through the Study doorway or the Kitchen-Dining Room doorway, then she definitely spawned in the Living Room.
- This could be useful if you want to test if she spawns from the Secret Area Middle Floor, or the Bedroom 2.
- However, this method could be risky if she spawns from the Basement especially on Extreme Mode as she has fast speed, so you should utilize the vase trick.
- This could be useful if you want to test if she spawns from the Secret Area Middle Floor, or the Bedroom 2.
- Secret Area Middle Floor: Try distract Granny by throwing the Grey Vase on the Starting Bedroom, or go through the Creaking Floors on the Upper Floor or the Kitchen, or touch the Bell Alarm on the Foyer. And then when you suddenly heard the Boxes drop on the floor, then she definitely spawns on the Secret Area Middle Floor. However, be careful, as in higher difficulties (such as Extreme), she will sometimes just phase through the boxes without dropping them, so it's always best to utilize the vase trick as it is the safest and you can always make sure that you don't get killed by Granny.
Trivia
- There is an occasional glitch where the Player knocks her out but she respawns instantly which can be annoying for them and requires them to shoot her again.
- If the Spider and the Crow are killed, they will not spawn at the beginning of the days beyond.
- Similarly, Slendrina's Mother will not spawn at the beginning of the next day if she is released by the Book.
