Crouching is a game mechanic that most notably allows the Player to get through short passages or hide from enemies by shortening their hitbox. It was released to the game on 24 November, 2017, in the version 1.0.

Mechanics

While crouching, the Player's hitbox is shortened, their camera is lowered, and they move slower. The first two of the listed aspects can give the player several advantages, such as: being able to move using short passages, hiding from enemies behind structures, or picking up items on ground easier.

Controls

Crouching can be toggled on or off using specific controls. On the mobile port, the control is pressing the white button depicting a person, the button's icon shows what crouching state the Player is in. On the PC port, the control is pressing the C key on the keyboard.

Trivia

  • The crouching button may give a hint about the Player's appearance.
  • If the Player has knocked out Granny and her body is in the way, the Player can stand on Granny's body and crouch slowly over her body.
  • Sometimes in the Car Ending in the Mobile version, the crouching button is still there, although tapping on it doesn't do anything, it just changes the image.
    • It is unknown whether this is a glitch or intentional.
  • It is unknown if the image of the Crouching button was taken or made by DVloper himself.
  • In the Mobile version, tapping on the Crouching button makes a wind-like noise, presumably the Player breathing.
  • The crawl space openings in Granny were much taller than the ones in the sequels until Version 1.7.9.3.
  • The Player used to be much slower when crouching, however Version 1.7.9.3 did increase the crouching speed.
